London, 17 March 2015
The French Ambassador to the UK, Sylvie Bermann, was at the London School of Economics on Friday 13 March to offer her perspective on the future of the European Union, at a conference organized by “Franco-British Connections”. In her speech, the Ambassador highlighted the substantial and necessary cooperation between France and the United Kingdom, and argued that the UK remains essential to the European project.
The Ambassador added that, given the challenges faced by the European Union, in particular the economic crisis and new security issues, cooperation increasingly ensures stability and prosperity. In a globalized word, influence and weight is measured at the continental scale.
In her closing remarks, the Ambassador emphasized that EU member states need to concentrate on their shared values and increase their impact in a globalized world, because “we are better together”.
