Ambassador visits Atomic Weapons Establishment in Aldermaston
M. Jean-Pierre Jouyet visited AWE (Atomic Weapons Establishment) Aldermaston, where he was greeted by a delegation of AWE and MoD representatives, with the participation of a CEA delegation.
During his visit to the Technology Development Centre, he noted progress in work done under the Teutates programme, which is part of the Lancaster House treaties, signed by the two countries in 2010.
This programme provides for enhanced cooperation on new simulation facilities, which have guaranteed weapons’ safety and performance since nuclear testing ended, in accordance with the commitment made by both countries to the CTBT (Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty).
AWE Aldermaston in the UK and Valduc (CEA) in France are involved in this cooperation, which will lead to the joint use of a facility (EPURE) located in Valduc, hosting equipment from both countries.
