France wants Iran nuclear deal strictly enforced - President
United States of America - Iran/North Korea - Telephone conversation between M. Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic, and Mr Donald Trump, President of the United States of America - Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic
Paris, 11 January 2018
President Macron spoke by phone to President Trump on 11 January. The two presidents discussed relations with Iran and the nuclear agreement signed in 2015.
President Macron reaffirmed France’s determination to see the agreement strictly enforced and the importance for all of its signatories to abide by it. The smooth implementation of the agreement should be accompanied by a stepped-up dialogue with Iran on its ballistic missile programme and its regional policy in order to guarantee greater stability in the Middle East.
President Macron also raised the issue of North Korea, following his state visit to China. The recent resumption of inter-Korean contacts is a positive sign. Maintaining the UN Security Council’s firm stance should help bring about a political solution and progress towards the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula./.
