France welcomes Cuban airport modernization contract
Cuba – Economic diplomacy/awarding of the Havana airport contract to Bouygues-ADP – Communiqué issued by M. Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad
Paris, 4 August 2016
The Cuban authorities have announced their decision to award the contract to modernize several of their airports, including José Martí airport in Havana, to the consortium Bouygues and Aéroports de Paris.
Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad, wrote to his counterpart, Rodrigo Malmierca, to welcome the decision.
Tourism is one of the priority sectors where France and Cuba maintain special cooperation, made official in the joint economic road map signed by M. Matthias Fekl and Vice-President Ricardo Cabrisas in February 2016, during President Castro’s state visit to Paris.
France would like to support the Cuban government’s strategy to modernize its supply and infrastructure to meet the sharp rise in demand. An agreement on the frequency of flights has already enabled a significant increase in air traffic between our two countries, particularly with the French West Indies./.
