France welcomes vote of confidence in Lebanese government
Paris, 20 March 2014
France welcomes the vote of confidence passed in Mr Tamam Salam’s government by a large majority of the Lebanese Parliament. This vote, on the basis of the ministerial statement of 15 March 2014, testifies to the spirit of responsibility prescribed by the circumstances and the challenges confronting our friend, Lebanon.
The Lebanese government is now fully in a position to address them. This is an important stage in getting Lebanon’s institutions back up and running, the necessity of which the International Support Group for Lebanon emphasized in the statement of conclusions of its Paris meeting on 5 March 2014.
France reaffirms that it is ready to work alongside the Lebanese government. It calls for the forthcoming institutional deadlines – particularly the presidential election, which must take place within the time period laid down in the constitution – to be respected./.
