Iranian assets frozen after attack thwarted in France
Fight against terrorism – Joint communiqué issued by M. Gérard Collomb, Ministre d’Etat, Minister of the Interior, M. Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and M. Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy and Finance
Paris, 2 October 2018
An attempted attack in Villepinte was thwarted on 30 June.
This extremely serious act, which was intended to take place on our soil, cannot go without a response.
By virtue of a decree by the Ministre d’Etat, Minister of the Interior and the Minister of the Economy and Finance on 2 October 2018, and without prejudice to the results of the criminal proceedings against the instigators, perpetrators and accomplices of this planned attack, France has taken preventive, targeted, proportionate actions in the form of national measures freezing the assets of Iranian nationals Mr Assadollah Asadi and Mr Saeid Hashemi Moghadam and those of the internal security department of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence.
In taking this decision, France reaffirms its determination to combat terrorism, especially on its own soil.
For Jean-Yves Le Drian, “the attack thwarted in Villepinte confirms the need for a stringent approach in our relations with Iran.”
Gérard Collomb reaffirms his “determination to do everything possible to prevent any form of terrorism, wherever it may come from.”
Bruno Le Maire emphasizes that “we must dry up terrorists’ financial channels to bring an end to their intolerable acts. We are taking strong action on the national level and continue to strengthen mechanisms on the international level.”./.
