Leading international restaurant ranking based on data from guidebooks and online review sites has been released
17 December 2015
French restaurants feature prominently in 2015’s La Liste, the leading international restaurant ranking based on data compiled from hundreds of guidebooks and online review sites.
The Top 10 is dominated by three countries: France, Japan and China while the coveted Number 1 spot goes to Swiss restaurant L’Hotel de Ville in Crissier.
The most rewarded chefs were Joël Robuchon (with 11 restaurants), Alain Ducasse (7) and Pierre Gagnaire (7), while the UK’s top-scoring restaurants were Gordon Ramsay; Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck and Michael Caines’ Gidleigh Park Hotel.
La Liste is designed to be an aggregator, compiling the reviews from existing guidebooks and online comments sections, including TripAdvisor, Yelp and L’Internaute.
Results were achieved by listing, harmonizing and compiling scores awarded to several thousand restaurants and almost 200 guidebooks and online review sites. Scores relating to wine list, service and decor were also included.
A panel of 150,000 restaurant owners rated the reliability of the different guidebooks. These results, carried out under professional supervision, determined the weighting of each guidebook in a restaurant’s overall score. Comments from websites were also included and make up 25 per cent of a restaurant’s final standing.
