Garde Républicaine takes part in Royal Windsor Horse Show to mark Platinum Jubilee
Garde Républicaine, counterpart of the Royal Household Cavalry, is taking part in the Royal Windsor Horse Show until Sunday to mark the Platinum Jubilee
The Garde Républicaine has been invited to participate in the Royal Windsor Horse Show from 12 to 15 May. It will be a contribution by France to the tribute paid to the Queen as part of celebrations for her Platinum Jubilee. Arriving into St Pancras station from Paris, the Garde Républicaine was warmly welcomed by the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, with which it is officially twinned, while its horses were transported to the Windsor showground.
On arrival, members of the Garde Républicaine had the honour of being escorted in a traditional horse-drawn carriage to the French Residence, where Ambassador Catherine Colonna recalled the two regiments’ excellence and their close ties as regards equestrian dressage.
From the gala evening of 12 May onwards, a small number of the 17 horse-riders who make up the invited Garde Républicaine detachment are due to appear for five minutes every evening, for a group dressage test in Louis XV-era period costumes. The Garde Républicaine will perform for the last time on Sunday 15 May during the equestrian competition in the Royal Windsor Horse Show’s main arena, in full dress uniform, also for a group dressage test.
